After overseeing a behind-closed-doors training session, PSV head coach Fred Rutten looked ahead to Thursday’s KNVB Beker quarter-final tie at home to N.E.C., with a 20.45 kick-off. “We have a good squad of players, including two fine goalkeepers. Przemyslaw Tyton needs some match action under his belt. So he is likely to start in goal as we take on N.E.C.”
“Cup football is different”
A win at the Philips Stadium would send PSV into the semi-finals. The draw will take place in Eindhoven after Thursday night’s game. PSV head coach Rutten, however, refused to take anything for granted yet. “Cup football is different from league football. There is often a run of shock results. We take this game seriously and don’t fancy being knocked out of the tournament. We play at home and have a chance to reach the semi-finals, so we intend to take our chances”, said Rutten. PSV will be without Engelaar (“It’s hard to say how long he will rehab”), Pieters and Tamata. “Erik Pieters is back in light training and things look bright for him, but, again, it is difficult to predict when he will return.”

“PSV want to win trophies”
Rutten considers to field some fringe players against N.E.C. “I won’t say Tyton will start in goal in cup matches only. We have a good squad of players, including two fine goalkeepers. Przemyslaw Tyton needs some match action under his belt. So he is likely to start in goal as we take on N.E.C, as a reward for his dedication in training.” Thursday’s opponents N.E.C. have played a slightly different style of play since the restart of the league after the winter break. ”They keep more men behind the ball and successfully try their luck with counter attacking football”, explained Rutten. “PSV give 100 per cent to every game and we want to win trophies. We will contest for the KNVB Beker; it is a coveted prize”, concluded Rutten.
