PSV head coach Fred Rutten was pleased with his side’s hard-fought 3-1 win over Vitesse. In a post-match reaction he said PSV found it difficult to unlock Vitesse´s well-organised backline. “Most teams opt for a defensive strategy here in Eindhoven. Yet we controlled the game and scored a fantastic goal”, said Rutten at the post-match conference.
Fred Rutten: “We were sloppy when we had taken a 2-0 lead.”
Rutten’s post-match reaction
“We were sloppy and complacent when we had taken a 2-0 lead. Some of our players were too playful. So we endured a few scary moments when Vitesse pulled a goal back, but fortunately Manolev scored a third goal in injury time to seal the win”, said Rutten. He also commented on the return of Jonathan Reis to the Philips Stadion. “He is actually a very nice kid. I can understand the crowd did not exactly roll out the red carpet for him, but some of the reactions were over the limit, I think. We should respect a player that has worked his socks off to make a comeback after many months out with a horror injury.”
