With leaders AZ held to a 1-1 draw by Ajax, PSV missed the chance to go top of the table. After they shared the spoils themselves in a 1-1 draw with FC Utrecht on Sunday afternoon, they are still one point below the Alkmaar outfit. Lilipaly gifted the home side the lead but captain Ola Toivonen scored his eleventh goal of the season to restore parity for PSV.
Kevin Strootman was replaced by Lens after 71 minutes.
PSV remain second
With leaders AZ held to a 1-1 draw by Ajax, PSV could have gone top of the Dutch Eredivisie but they were unable to take all three points in Utrecht. PSV dominated the game and were the better side but failed to convert their dominance into goals. PSV remain second in the league table, with 38 points from 18 games, one point below leaders AZ. Fred Rutten’s men will be next in action on Friday when they play host to Vitesse in their first home game in 2012.
Precious few first-half chances
Isaksson kept his place in goal and Derijck partnered Marcelo in the centre of defence, when PSV took on FC Utrecht at the Galgenwaard. PSV dominated proceedings from the first whistle but created precious few chances as they struggled to open the hosts´ well-drilled backline. FC Utrecht had little to offer in attack.

Ola Toivonen scored equaliser
Completely against the run of play, the home side opened the scoring after 66 minutes from their very first chance of the match. Stefano Lilipaly, who made his FC Utrecht debut, cut inside the box and unleashed a low shot into the bottom-left corner: 1-0. The lead was short-lived, though, for barely five minutes later captain Ola Toivonen blasted the ball home following a poor clearance from a corner: 1-1. Lens and Matavz had chances to snatch a late for PSV but no more goals were scored on a disappointing afternoon for Fred Rutten’s team. They will they play host to Vitesse in their first home game in 2012 on Friday.
