Asked whether it feels like coming home, Wilfred Bouma could only give a affirmative answer. “I’ve always maintained I would like to return to the club where I started my career”, said the brand-new PSV player after signing a two-year deal with the club where he spent eleven seasons before (1994 – 2005). “I’m keen to show I’m still a good player and I want to contribute to the team.”

Number 18

On Monday afternoon, 32-year-old Bouma was at the Philips Stadium where he spoke to PSV TV. “I’m pleased to have finally signed a contract”, admitted Bouma, who will wear the No. 18 shirt with PSV. “Number 3 actually means something special to me, but I asked my son to pick a number. He said he liked number 18 a lot and so do I. I already wore the No.18 shirt in pre-season”, said Bouma, who is glad his return to Eindhoven is now a fact. “I trained two months with the squad but my PSV future looked uncertain. I was in the waiting room. But it was my own choice. It didn’t bother me too much. I’ve always maintained I would like to rejoin PSV and I’m glad we have reached an agreement.”

“Want to contribute to the team”

Bouma is looking forward to making appearances with PSV again. “I got match practise in PSV´s pre-season game against Ipswich Town at the Philips Stadium, but playing competitive matches is what it is all about. It’s up to the coach to decide when he needs me, but I am eager to prove I'm still a good player. I want to contribute to this team, who are a side with a lot of potential”, said Bouma, who saw many familiar faces at the Philips Stadium. “I’ve always wanted to return and I’m delighted to be back here.”
