Wilfred Bouma has always maintained that he would like to return to PSV, although he was also being linked with a move abroad. He has now ended speculation about his future by signing a new two-year contract shortly. Wilfred Bouma made his PSV debut during the 1994/95 season. He joined MVV on loan in 1996 and after impressing at Fortuna Sittard in the 1998-999 season, he was drafted back into the PSV squad the next summer where he became a first-team regular. Bouma made a move to Aston Villa in 2005. Bouma was released by the Premier League club in June. He had struggled to retain his first-team berth after sustaining a serious ankle injury in April 2009. Bouma was given permission to train with PSV to maintain his fitness levels. He featured in five pre-season friendlies, among with matches at 1. FC Nürnberg and Newcastle United.
